As we convene for this international conference, it is important to reflect on the histories and cultures of Indigenous communities that were present on the land before us. We recognize and honour the enduring presence, resilience and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples across Canada. Quebec City has a complex history and has been a historical meeting place for many Nations including the Niowentsïo of the Wendat people, the Ndakina of the Wabanaki people, the Nitassinan of the Innu people, the Nitaskinan of the Atikamekw people and the Wolastokuk of the Wolastoqey people. We invite you to visit the Main Territory Stakeholder Identification Interactive Map of Quebec, developed by The First Nations Institute of Quebec and Labrador Sustainable Development Institute for more information about Quebec’s First Nations to explore the different rightsholders among different territories and www.native-land.ca for more information worldwide. As Canadians, we remain aware of the ongoing struggles of Indigenous communities and commit ourselves to fostering respectful relationships and meaningful reconciliation.
