Over the week of August 24 - 28, IBFRA 2026 will bring together international leading experts to share the latest science and insights on boreal forest ecosystems, disturbances, and climate change including plenary sessions with keynote speakers, social activities and more!

Registration Costs:
Students (MSc & PhD only): $650 early bird / $750 regular
Standard (Including Postdoctoral Fellows): $950 early bird / $1,150 regular
Representatives of Indigenous Nations are eligible for a discounted rate. Please email amy.wotherspoon@ubc.ca from your Nation's email address to receive a coupon code.

Early bird registration: March 20 - May 15, 2026
Regular registration: May 16, 2026 onwards
Those with accepted oral presentations must confirm their place in the scientific program by registering for the event before May 15th, which corresponds to the early bird registration deadline.
You will be able to revisit and modify your registration until the end of the registration period. However, if you have already paid for an activity, please contact us directly to make any changes.
Refund policy
Before July 27, 2026: 100% refund
Between July 27 - August 9, 2026: 50% refund
After August 10, 2026: Non-refundable
Exceptions will be made to those who are unable to attend the event due to visa refusals or extenuating circumstances.

Some things to note:
Early bird registration fees will be available during the first month of registration. Be sure to check your email regarding these dates.
Reduced registration fees will be available for students and early-career researchers. Details will be posted on the registration page.
All presenters for both oral and poster presentations must register by April 15, 2026 to be included by the final program. If you do not register by this date, your presentation slot will be offered to someone else.

Yes. Optional field excursions will take place toward the end of the conference, offering participants the chance to explore local boreal forest landscapes and management sites near Québec City.

Depending on your nationality, you may need a visa or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to enter Canada.

Registration includes daily coffee breaks and lunch on days of the scientific program, plus additional drinks or meals at select social events.

Abstracts will be published in the conference proceedings and schedule, but presentations will not be recorded. We encourage you to contact presenting authors for which you would like to have further discussion or sharing of resources.
Letter of invitation
Official letters of invitation for visa applications and funding requirements will be available to those with accepted presentations at the event. Participants must register and complete payment before their letter of invitation can be sent.
Please complete the form here and we will aim to have an official letter from Université Laval to you within 5 - 10 business days.
Note that the visa application in Canada can be very slow, so we encourage you to apply for a visa as soon as possible. To expedite this process, we are in contact with Immigration Canada and will be able to fast-track the process for our participants.

Special Collection in the Canadian Journal of Forest Research
Submission opens: 1 September 2026
Submission deadline: 1 September 2027
Selected research presented at IBFRA 2026 will be eligible for submission to a special collection of the Canadian Journal of Forest Research. This special issue will highlight high-quality, peer-reviewed contributions that advance understanding of boreal forest ecosystems, disturbance dynamics, and resilience under a changing climate. All submissions will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process.
